Introduction to International Legal English

This Intermediate level course is for newly - qualified lawyers who need to use English in their legal work or studies. Using authentic legal texts and case studies the course develops learners' understanding of the law while simultaneously consolidating their language skills. The course covers: a career in law, contract law, tort law, criminal law, company law, property law, commercial law and other topics.

ILEC

IELTS - The International English Language Testing System

Is an international standardised test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. It is jointly managed by Cambridge English Language Assessment, the British Council and IDP Education Pvt Ltd, and was established in 1989. IELTS is one of the two major English-language test in the world, the other being the TOEFL; Is recognized by 6000 leading organizations, universities, governmental bodies, International educational institutions.

There are two versions of the IELTS: the Academic Version and the General Training Version:

The Academic Version is intended for those who want to enroll in universities and other institutions of higher education.
The General Training Version is intended for those planning to undertake non-academic training or to gain work experience, or for immigration purposes.

The total test duration is around 2 hours and 45 minutes for Listening, Reading and Writing modules.
 Listening: 40 minutes,
 Reading: 60 minutes.
 Writing: 60 minutes.
 Speaking: 11–15 minutes

Certificate is valid during 2 years.

Test of English as a Foreign Language or TOEFL is a standardised test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers wishing to enroll in U.S. universities. The test is accepted by many English-speaking academic and professional institutions. TOEFL is one of the two major English-language test in the world, the other being the IELTS.

TOEFL test scores are accepted by more than 9000 colleges, universities, agencies and other institutions in 130 countries and that list includes the top 100 universities in the world. In addition it can be used to satisfy visa requirements for both Australia and the U.K.
The IBT TOEFL test consists of 4 parts:
  
Listening: 60 minutes 
Reading:   60 minutes
Writing:   50 minutes
Speaking: 20 minutes
Maximum score is 120; most universities require 79 – 100 scores.

Certificate is valid during 1 year.

FCE – First Certificate in English is one of the examinations available from University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations in England. Its possession proves one's adequacy in the English language, and its successful completion means that one is able to interact socially efficiently. The FCE examination falls in the grade A2, B1, B2 and C1.  It is recognized by 2500 international organizations; is required in local universities while applying for postgraduate academic degree programmes.

The Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) is the advanced general English examination provided by University of Cambridge ESOL Examination board.
The examination comprises five parts:

 Reading (1 hour and 15 minutes)
 Writing (1 hour and 30 minutes)
 Use of English (1 hour)
 Listening (40 minutes)
 Speaking (20 minutes)

Each component carries 20% of the total marks. There are three pass grades (A, B and C) and certificates are awarded to candidates who achieve these grades. Candidates who achieve a grade D or E are judged not to have reached the required standard for CAE. The certificate is recognized by 3000 leading universities, bodies and employears.

Upper Intermediate - Duration 3 months, 12 lessons per month (24 hours), all aspects: listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar. After completing the course students are able to freely express their view points while discussing any topic; be self-confident in debates; use complex grammar structure while writing; build business relations with foreign colleagues and partners. The course is led by Georgian and native English speaking teachers.

Advanced - Duration 4 months, 12 lessons per month (24 hours), all aspects: listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar. Conversation Classes + writing, analytical reading, vocabulary, grammar

Students will receive one conversation lesson per week conducted by English teacher and one lesson per week of all other aspects of language learning conducted by a Georgian teacher.

The main aim of the conversation classes is to improve your communication skills and your English language knowledge. It is designed for those who intend to communicate with foreign partners, be in equal position with them while discussing important issues. Classes  will help you express your ideas correctly, use the English language as a tool while debating, raises your self-esteem, gives a chance to participate in international projects.

You will speak about and discuss different topics:

• Travelling
• Education
• Communication
• Entertainment

Special emphasis will be made on leading an interview:

• Turning negative into positive
• Showing your competence
• Negotiation skills

With Georgian teacher students are divided into four or five member groups and a four-step cycle is initiated: teach, team study, test and recognition. The teaching phase begins with the presentation of material. During team study, group members work cooperatively with worksheets and answer sheets. Next, each student individually takes a quiz. The teacher scores the papers. Each team receives recognition awards. Then the group starts working on the next unit and after the unit is done the same cycle starts working.

All the participants have to take a pre - test and after their actual level is revealed they are divided into groups. During the teaching process students will have to go through oral practice tests that show and improve their speaking abilities and write three complete tests. The first test - at the end of the first month, the second- at the end of the second month and the third – at the end of the course. The tests will reveal their writing, grammar and spelling skills.
